Moderator: Mr. Jack Pellicci (C)

From a federal strategy to the front line of homeland security how are the states managing their homeland security enterprise and what do they need from the federal government and the private sector to succeed.

The Federal Government, spearheaded by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), is marshalling resources to prepare the nation to detect and respond to terrorist threats, natural disasters, and other emergencies. Geospatial Information Management and spatial technologies provide a common foundation to understand and deal with these disparate threats to our security. Many government agencies, including those at the federal level comprising and supporting DHS, as well as those at the state and local level, have invested substantially in GIS platforms, tools, and data, but they have yet to be leveraged and integrated to create a powerful Homeland Security foundation. This panel will explore what governments can do, and should do, to apply geospatial information management technology to strengthen their capabilities, and to establish "spatially-enabled" enterprises which will improve homeland security for the nation.
